Overview

Mary Beth Elliott returned to school and obtained her PharmD in 1997 after many years in basic research. Dr. Elliott has previously taught pharmacology at the School of Pharmacy as a lecturer, and for most of her research career in the Hypertension Laboratory at the Madison VAMC has investigated the roles of angiotensin and natriuretic peptides, in particular their cellular mechanism affecting mineralocorticoid synthesis. During her PharmD training and residency, she turned her interests toward geriatrics, her primary area of interest. Her practice site is at the Madison VAMC, where she works with elderly patients at risk of osteoporosis and provides training in the Osteoporosis Clinic to both UW medical residents and pharmacy students. Her research focuses on bone health in vulnerable populations, such as men with prostate cancer and nursing home residents. She received the Champion of Women's Health Award from the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation, and is currently completing a study funded by the National Osteoporosis Foundation. Her teaching focuses on diseases affecting older individuals. She is a member of the Wisconsin Bone Club, ACCP, PSW, and the Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
