We actively pursue pharmaceutical research in nanomedicine that focuses on polymeric assemblies for drug delivery, non-viral gene delivery and optical imaging. Within this context, we are very interested in fundamental pharmaceutical concepts in drug solubilization, controlled release and drug targeting. These insights into polymeric assemblies allow us to explore therapeutic strategies that involve hybrid nanomedicines that are bio-responsive, synergistic and theranostic, aiming for progress against lung, breast and ovarian cancers.

Background: Dr. Glen S. Kwon was a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Biomedical Engineering and Science at Tokyo Women's Medical University in Tokyo, Japan from 1991 to 1993 and an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada from 1993 to 1997. He received the Jorge Heller Journal of Controlled Release/Controlled Release Society (CRS) Outstanding Paper Award in 1994 and the CRS Young Investigator Research Achievement Award in 2003. He was the editor of Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems in 2005 and co-editor of Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery in 2008. He served on the Gene and Drug Delivery Study Section at NIH from 2005 to 2009. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (2012). He is a member of the Experimental Therapeutics Program at the UW Carbone Cancer Center, an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta and a member of the Board of Scientific Advisors in CRS. He is co-founder of Co-D Therapeutics Inc., a start-up company dedicated to novel multi-drug anticancer nanomedicines. He is an Associate Editor for the J. of Pharmacy and Pharm. Sci. He serves on editorial boards of J. Controlled Release, Pharm. Res., Exp. Biology & Med., Recent Patents and Drug Formulations and Molecular Pharmaceutics.

Professional Interests: Nanomedicine; polymeric micelles; drug solubilization; controlled release; non-viral gene delivery and optical imaging.
