Background: Jia is a Ph.D. student in the School of Pharmacy, Social and Administrative Sciences Division at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jia's research focuses on disparities in health care and health outcomes, in particular among cardiovascular patients. She is also interested in patient education on disease prevention and behavior change. Jia is working on her dissertation, which is a longitudinal study to explore risk factors and racial-gender differences in cardiovascular disease progression.
Jia graduated from China Pharmaceutical University at 2004. She received her master degree in Health Education from University of Nebraska-Lincoln. For her master degree, Jia conducted a pilot study of relationship between adolescents' risk behavior and their mental status. She developed an adolescents risk behavior & mental health instrument, and collected data from high school students.
During her internship at China National Health Education Institute (China CDC), Jia participated in program evaluation of AIDS intervention and prevention in China (Global Fund AIDS office, Round 3-China CARES). Jia also worked as an epidemiology assistant at DHHS, Nebraska State Government. She helped draft state public health report of 'Cancer Disparities by Race and Ethnicity in Nebraska: 1991-2005, Division of Public Health'.
Jia is a TA for SAS 411: Psychosocial and Management Aspects of Pharmacy, SAS 652: Pharmacist Communication: Educational & Behavioral Interventions.
Professional Interests: Health care disparities in vulnerable population; Health outcome in heart failure patients; Patient medication management and adherence; Adolescent health behavior.
