Sohee Kim

Graduate student

Sohee's research interests include using big data to enhance medication use among older adults, drug pricing for seniors, and Medicare Part D. She seeks to leverage her expertise in Economics, Public Health, and Health Services Research to contribute to public health systems, particularly in integrating cross-disciplinary perspectives to enhance the effectiveness of future health services and systems. Her specific focus is on improving health outcomes for older adults.

Sohee has gained valuable research experience as a research assistant in the Epidemiology, Statistics, and Big Data Laboratory at the Institute for Health and Society at Hanyang University. Her work primarily focused on analyzing health outcomes, particularly during infectious disease outbreaks. She utilized API data and infectious disease daily reports from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to compare outcomes across different states.

She believes strongly in the importance of analytical perspectives and skills in approaching problems and supporting evidence-based decision-making in healthcare policies and regulations.

Sohee is currently a Ph.D. student in the Health Services Research in Pharmacy program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW), with a minor in health policy evaluation. Her academic journey began with undergraduate studies in Economics, where she developed an awareness that policy recommendations are context-dependent and influenced by implementation conditions. This realization spurred her interest in understanding healthcare policy-making processes, leading her to pursue a Master’s in Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Here, she deepened her knowledge of structural and systemic perspectives on health outcomes, fostering her passion for public health.
