Edward Portillo

Associate Professor (CHS)


Dr. Portillo’s research interests are focused both in curriculum innovation and pharmacy practice advancement. Dr. Portillo is heavily involved in curriculum development, with research initiatives in student leadership development, mentorship, and innovative curriculum design. He also has been involved in development and measurement of innovative pharmacist services in practice, focused on pharmacist prescribing within inter-professional teams to elevate the level of care provided to patients.

Edward C. Portillo, PharmD, graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy in 2014 and completed the PGY1/2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency Program at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in 2016. Dr. Portillo joined the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in August 2016 and is heavily engaged in teaching in Integrated Pharmacotherapy courses, Professional Development lectures, as well as in the growing undergraduate Consumer Self-Care curriculum. Dr. Portillo’s practice experience includes inpatient, ambulatory care, and leadership training. He currently practices at the Madison VA in the Medication Management clinic as a clinical ambulatory care specialist, and has an independent scope of practice to prescribe medications, order lab values, and schedule patients for follow-up.
