Andrea L Porter, PharmD

Associate Professor (CHS)

Andrea joined the University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Pharmacy faculty in November 2008 and coordinates the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences courses for the first-year Doctor of Pharmacy students and the Integrated Pharmacotherapy Skills courses for second-year students.  Dr. Porter received her PharmD from the University of Wisconsin in 2006.  After graduation, she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. 

Andrea is currently a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Anticoagulation Clinic at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.  In her clinical practice, she manages the initiation of antithrombotic therapy, follows patients on short-term and long-term antithrombotic therapy, manages the transition of patients from inpatient to outpatient care, and coordinates warfarin interruptions for procedures using low molecular weight heparin if warranted.  She has prescriptive authority under a scope of practice and is a preceptor for both pharmacy students and pharmacy residents.  She is also involved with clinical research in the Anticoagulation Clinic.
