Dr. Barry E. Gidal is a Professor of Pharmacy and past Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Division at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner at the Wm. S. Middleton VA Epilepsy clinic (part of the Epilepsy Center of Excellence network). 

Dr. Gidal earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, Washington. He completed a clinical residency at  UW Hospitals in Seattle, and remained at UW for a clinical pharmacokinetics fellowship in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacy Practice. Prior to earning his PharmD, he worked as a Critical Care Pharmacist at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, California. 

Dr. Gidal's research interest is in adult epilepsy. In particular, his area of work is in antiseizure medication pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and drug interactions. Dr. Gidal has been a Principal or Co-investigator on multiple research studies.  He has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles in the medical and scientific literature. Dr. Gidal has served on the editorial boards for Epilepsy Currents, Epilepsia, Epilepsy Research and Annals of Pharmacotherapy. Currently he serves on the editorial board of Epilepsy Behavior, and Associate Editor for Lay summaries at Epilepsy behavior Reports. He is an Editor of the medications section of Epilepsy.com, and an Associate Editor for Wyllie’s, Treatment of Epilepsy. Dr. Gidal has served on numerous committees for both the American Epilepsy Society American Academy of Neurology, and the Epilepsy Foundation of Wisconsin.
